Yesterday we revealed the Swedish winners in the BeerSweden Forum’s annual online awards designed to recognise excellence in beer both here and overseas.

Today it’s time to see who scooped what in the four International categories:

De Struise Brouwers‘s Belgium Strong Ale has become something of a legend among beer enthusiasts. Named after the wooden fishing boats that worked the waters around the Belgium village of De Panne and inspired by the strong dark beer the fisherman used to enjoy this 10% ABV beer is rich, luxurious and ages better than Sophia Loren.

This family-owned internationally loved brewery came second last year behind the Danish Godfather of Gypsy Brewing and goes one better this time around!

Coming out on top is Alaskan micro Anchorage Brewing Co, with it’s highly-rated line-up of funky art brews, including Love Buzz (saison) and their space-bending white IPA Galaxy. If you can track them down then try them!

Personally I couldn’t be happier to see the gentleman of international craft beer Mr Garrett Oliver take home BSF’s award for International Beer Personality of the Year. In a world where excess is considered the norm Garrett brings us a welcome sense of balance and elegance through his beers. His dedication to and admiration of all things Swedish is evident in the amount of times he visits us. Listening to one of his beer talks is like listening to hop poetry. Coming a close second and third are Danish twins Jeppe and Mikkel Bjergso, who, just like in real life are almost impossible to separate, with only one vote’s difference between them!

That’s it for this year! Remember to keep up with the very latest beery goings-on by visiting the BeerSweden Forum right now. If you’re already a member then you’re amazing! If not then why not join us? It only takes a few seconds to sign up and it’s totally free. Within minutes you could be making new beer friends, scoring some rare beers, learning insider homebrew tricks and much much more.
